GPR: Subsurface Concrete Scanning for Any Structure

What it is

GPR (ground-penetrating radar) is a subsurface concrete-scanning payload that HB2 or HB3 carries across a structure, rather than a handheld unit an operator has to walk over the asset themselves. Mounting it on the robot means concrete surveys can reach the same hard-to-access tanks, walls, and floors that HausBots’ other payloads already reach, without scaffolding, rope access, or an extended shutdown to get a person inside.

Rather than building GPR sensor technology from scratch, HausBots integrates GPR onto its climbing and scanning platforms. The value here is where the survey can now reach, not a specific sensor’s technical spec — so this page deliberately doesn’t quote sensor numbers or name a manufacturer.

Ground Penetration Radar

Overview

HB2 and HB3 can carry a ground-penetrating radar (GPR) payload, letting the robot scan concrete structures directly rather than requiring a handheld unit and an operator walking the surface. HausBots integrates GPR onto its climbing platforms, the value is where the survey can now reach, not a specific sensor’s spec sheet.

Use case

Best for concrete condition assessment, tanks, silos, floors, and walls, where reaching the surface without scaffolding or confined space entry is the real challenge, not the GPR technology itself. Usually paired with Static Camera or PTZ Camera so the subsurface scan has a matching visual record.

Features

Concrete access without scaffolding
HB2 and HB3 climb the surface directly, carrying the GPR payload to tanks, silos, and vertical concrete structures that would otherwise need scaffolding or rope access.
Continuous, repeatable scanning
A moving scan builds a repeatable subsurface dataset across the full survey path, rather than a series of manual spot checks.

Rebar & void mapping
Supports locating reinforcement, voids, and other subsurface anomalies within concrete.
Pairs with visual payloads
Combine with Static or PTZ Camera for a matched visual and subsurface record of the same structure.

GPR + visual payloads

GPR is usually carried alongside a visual payload, so the subsurface data has a matching image of surface condition from the same pass.

GPR + Static Camera

Full, automatic visual coverage of the survey pass alongside the subsurface scan, the default combination for a baseline concrete condition survey.

GPR + PTZ Camera

Operator-directed close-up follow-up on anything the GPR or visual record flags, without re-running the survey with a different payload.
