Safer, faster inspections across energy and nuclear infrastructure
Energy and nuclear sites run on uptime and strict safety margins. Our crawler robots integrate with your existing NDT payloads to deliver faster inspections, better data coverage, and a significant reduction in the time personnel spend in hazardous or confined areas

Why energy and nuclear inspection is different
Energy and nuclear facilities operate under some of the strictest safety and access regimes of any industry. Radiation protection follows the ALARA principle, as low as reasonably achievable, built on three levers: reducing the time spent near a source, increasing distance from it, and adding shielding. Every minute a person doesn’t need to spend at height, in a confined space, or near an active source is a direct win for both safety and compliance. That’s the core case for climbing crawler robots on energy and nuclear assets: the robot takes on the time and proximity, while your team reviews the data from a safe distance. The same logic holds for conventional power and hydro assets — cooling towers, turbine halls, pressure vessels — where scaffolding and confined-space entry carry their own permit-to-work overhead even without a radiological dimension.

Use the right technology to inspect your assets
HB2
The HB2 can climb rough surfaces, overcome obstacles such as wires and surface bolts, and carries a 6kg payload. Best suited to visual inspection and basic UT readings on tighter or more complex geometries, down to a 1m vessel radius.
HB3
Built for the heaviest of missions. With more than 100kg of reaction force to the surface via AEROGRIP, HB3 carries payloads up to 25kg for scanning and corrosion mapping on concrete, brick, stainless steel and other complex surfaces.
Traditional access vs HausBots crawler robots
| Dimension | Magnetic adhesion | Vacuum / suction-and-airflow adhesion |
|---|---|---|
| Surface compatibility | Ferromagnetic metals only | Ferrous and non-ferrous surfaces |
| Surface texture | Smooth or moderately rough metal | Pure vacuum: generally needs smooth, sealable surfaces. Suction-and-airflow hybrids (e.g. AEROGRIP): also handle rough surfaces like concrete and brick |
| Power draw | Often lower continuous draw | Continuous power needed to maintain suction/airflow |
| Typical use cases | Ship hulls, steel tanks, pipework | Tanks, silos, concrete structures, mixed-material sites |
Frequently Asked Questions
Can your robots be used in radiologically controlled areas?
HB2 and HB3 are climbing crawler platforms designed for external and accessible internal structural surveys. Any deployment in a radiologically controlled or classified area would need to go through your site’s own access, certification, and safety-case process — talk to us about your specific facility requirements.
What NDT payloads can the robot carry on energy assets?
AEROGRIP is a platform, not a fixed sensor package. It integrates with the ultrasonic thickness measurement (UTM), automated UT (AUT), GPR, half-cell potential, and visual inspection payloads you already use, so you don’t need to change your existing NDT workflow.
Does the robot work on non-ferrous surfaces like concrete containment structures?
Yes. AEROGRIP is a suction and airflow hybrid downforce system, so unlike magnetic crawlers it works on both ferrous and non-ferrous surfaces, concrete, stainless steel, composites, and brick.
How much does an inspection cost compared to scaffolding or rope access?
Every site is different, but the core saving is the elimination of access costs (scaffolding, cherry pickers, rope access teams) and downtime. Book a demo and we’ll scope your specific asset.
